What makes a good lead photo on Bumble specifically?
Your first image should definitely be a great image of you. It can carry some context, but its main purpose is representing what you look like, and representing you well. The second gives the person something to respond to. That could be you cuddling a cute puppy, or something you like doing, like playing basketball. The third is your general overall vibe, and I'd call this your style, or your full body fashion shot. It shows your style and carries through the rest of the profile. What's genuinely different about Bumble is that women do check. They actually go down the list rather than deciding on that opener alone, unless your first photo really turns them off. So the lead photo definitely does matter, but the whole set has to be rad.
I don't have any recent photos of myself. Can I still use Bumble?
You can, but old photos that don't look like you now are how first dates get awkward. We'll get you a current set in one afternoon, close ups, full body, a bit of your life, so whoever messages first knows exactly who's turning up.
Do people book photographers specifically for Bumble?
Yeah, and arguably it matters more here than anywhere else. Someone's got to look at your photo and decide you're worth writing the first message to, with nothing else to go on. That's a huge amount of weight to hang on a group shot from a wedding in 2021 that you cropped yourself out of.
How does a Bumble photo session run?
We have a good time, mostly. Phone call first, where we talk about what you're actually into, then I'll text you the shortlist whether you book or not. Book and you get the facial coaching video to watch beforehand. On the day we just hang out and talk before a camera goes anywhere near you, then practise the coaching in front of a mirror. Indoors first while you settle in, then outside doing the things you actually like. Three to four hours, up to seven outfits. Gallery lands in three to five days with the Selects already numbered. I come down to San Antonio too, just a flat $150 travel fee.
Can't my mate just take my Bumble photos?
Look, your mate's great, but they're documenting you. I'm directing you. Most people tense up the second a camera comes out and it shows in the eyes and the jaw, so a big part of my job is getting you out of your head, cracking a few jokes, and catching the moment you actually relax. Plus you leave with a proper set: a lead portrait, close-ups, full body and lifestyle shots that all hang together. And your mate doesn't have to spend the afternoon yelling "act natural" at you lol.
Should I smile in my Bumble photos?
In the lead photo, usually yeah, and a real one rather than that held smile that creeps in around photo three. Getting a genuine one on demand is honestly most of what the coaching's for. Further down the set you've got room for something more relaxed. But the first photo's doing one job, and that's making someone want to start talking to you.
Should I update my Bumble photos if they are a year or two old?
Let's all say it together: no catfishing! Current photos that actually represent you. It's why I don't retouch and why AI-generated anything is a hard no from me. New haircut, got in shape, changed your whole look? Not a problem at all. That's a reason to book, not a reason to keep the old ones limping along.
