Do Hinge photos need to be different from Tinder photos?
Honestly, not really. The photos are the photos, I don't shoot them differently depending on the app. What changes is what you're building the profile for. Hinge is built for people who are actually after a relationship, and it lets you add so much more personality. Heaps of photos, prompts, more to read. You can do a lot with it. It's about who you are, what you do, what you're like around other people. What we're doing is giving people something to comment on, something to react to, because on Hinge that's literally how conversations start. Tinder's faster and more surface level, and its culture reflects that. If that's the profile you want instead, yeah mate, we can absolutely do that. It's one of the things we'll talk about on the phone call.
My Hinge photos are all selfies. How bad is that?
Look, one selfie is fine. Six is a cry for help lol. Hinge wants a mix: a great close up, a full body shot, something you actually do, and a proper laugh. That's hard to pull off when you're the one holding the phone. That's the bit I'm there for.
What should my first photo on Hinge be?
A reaction shot, not a headshot. I say something dumb, you laugh or roll your eyes, and that's the frame. It looks like you on a really good day instead of you posing for a passport. Then we follow it with a close up and something you actually love doing.
Do people really book a photographer just for Hinge?
Yeah, and more than you'd guess. Hinge puts your photos right next to your prompts, so a weak photo set quietly undercuts everything you wrote. Most people are using pictures taken for some completely different reason, a wedding, a work headshot, a group shot they cropped themselves out of. None of those were taken to make you look like someone worth starting a conversation with.
What does a Hinge photo session actually involve?
Short version, we have a really good time and I take photos while it's happening. Longer version: phone call first about what you actually like doing, then I'll text you the shortlist whether you book or not. Book and the facial coaching video comes through so the day isn't the first time you've tried it. When I turn up we hang out and talk before any camera comes out, then practise the coaching in front of a mirror. Indoors first, then outside doing your stuff. Three to four hours, up to seven outfits, gallery in three to five days. I come down to San Antonio too, just a flat $150 travel fee.
My prompts are good but nobody replies. Is it the photos?
Usually, yeah. These are photo-first platforms and the decision gets made almost entirely there. Personality matters enormously, but it can be shown in the photos too, which is what we build the shortlist around. If your lead photo's a dim iPhone shot cropped out of a group, most people never reach the text at all. Have great prompts, definitely. You just need great photos for anyone to read them.
Should my Hinge photos show my hobbies?
Yeah, and it's how I approach these profiles generally. The best photos sit right where something you genuinely like doing meets an interesting image, candid, catching a real moment rather than a posed one. That's exactly what the shortlist on the call is for. Some shots sit in between, a coffee shop or a food truck, and that's deliberate. Not every photo needs context. Some of them just need to be bangers.
How old is too old for a Hinge photo?
Let's all say it together: no catfishing! Current, and genuinely you. That's exactly why I don't retouch. I'll colour and process so the images look distinctive, but I'm not changing your face, and AI is nowhere near this process. Had a haircut, got into shape, entered a better chapter? Brilliant reason to go and get excellent photos. Plus the sessions are way more fun than anyone expects.
