Does my first Tinder photo really matter that much?
More than everything else combined, honestly. Tinder's a stack of single photos judged in about a second, so your first one does nearly all the work before anyone even reaches the second. That's why we shoot several strong lead options rather than treating all eight as equal, and why the Selects folder turns up numbered. I've already put them in the order I'd use them.
I've got nobody to take my Tinder pics. What do I do?
Join the club, mate. Your mates take two photos, you blink in both, and they reckon it's fine. Book a call and I'll plan a shoot around stuff you actually do in Austin, then coach you through it so the first photo's a banger.
What should my first Tinder photo be?
The portrait. Just you, good light, looking at the camera like you actually want to be there. No sunnies, no hat, no group shot, no fish. Hey, the fish can come later lol. Then I'd go a reaction shot: you laughing, mucking around with your dog, playing pickleball, whatever you're actually into. Then a vibes shot that shows your style. The rest are there to back those three up.
Are Tinder photos different to Hinge photos?
Heaps. On Hinge people scroll your whole profile and read your prompts, so the photos work as a set (here's how I set up a Hinge profile). Tinder is way more first photo or nothing, it's swipe, swipe, swipe. So for Tinder I push harder on that lead shot and make sure the next two can hold their own if someone taps through. Same shoot covers both, we just put them in a different order.
Is hiring a photographer for Tinder a real thing?
Yeah, it definitely sounds ridiculous, right up until you remember this entire app is usually based around one photograph that gets reacted to in under a second. People will spend a whole weekend agonising over a bio nobody is going to read, and precisely nothing on the photo everybody is actually using to make their decision. So yes, it's absolutely a real thing. You need banging photos. And honestly, it's one of the best things you can do for your dating life. Come on mate, have some fun!
What does a Tinder photo shoot look like?
Like a good afternoon out where someone happens to be taking excellent photos of you. The mechanics: phone call first about what you actually like doing, then I'll text you the shortlist whether you book or not. Book and the facial coaching video comes through to watch beforehand. On the day I turn up, we hang out and talk before any camera appears, then practise the coaching in front of a mirror so it's not brand new. Indoors first, then outside for the rest. Three to four hours, up to seven outfits, gallery in three to five days. I come down to San Antonio too, just a flat $150 travel fee.
Will professional photos look try-hard on Tinder?
They will if they look like headshots, which is exactly what we're not doing. No studio backdrop, no grey wall, no corporate smile. And I don't retouch. I'll colour and process so the images look distinctive, but your face is your face. What we're after is a photo that looks like a mate with a very good eye caught you on a very good day. Nobody should be able to tell it was planned.
How many photos should I actually put on Tinder?
Fill the slots, but make each one earn its place. Six near-identical photos in the same shirt reads exactly as badly as having two. You want the lead photo, a clear full body, something with a bit of context, and one with other humans in it so you look like you've got a life. Not every shot needs context though. Some of them just need to be bangers.
Does it matter if my Tinder photos are a couple of years old?
Let's all say it together: no catfishing! Your photos need to be current and they need to look like you, which is also why I don't retouch and why you should stay well away from AI headshot generators. Had a haircut or got into shape since your last decent photo? That's not a reason to keep recycling the old one. That's the reason to book. Plus the sessions are genuinely fun, which people never believe until they turn up.
