Online Dating Photography FAQs

Is it try-hard to use professional pics on Hinge?

Honestly, not at all, and that's the whole point of how I shoot. There's no retouching your face, no AI and no studio. It's just you in your cutest outfits at spots you'd actually go to, genuinely laughing because we're having a good time. Nobody looks at these and thinks photoshoot, they just think, wow, she has a really fun life lol.

What pics should I put on Hinge, and what should my first photo be?

I find it's great to lead with a great photo of you, generally a portrait with a great smile, or a cute photo. Then mix it up a little bit. A full-length outfit is great, but I always like the second photo to be something people can respond to. It gives them a chance to say something without just saying "oh my God, you look hot". It's genuinely hard when there's no context in a photo, and that's what I'm very, very good at.

How many pics do I get?

Heaps. Hinge needs six, so I pick out my top eight for you and put them in the order I'd use them on your profile, which takes all the guesswork out of it. Then you get the full gallery of edited images from the day too, so you can swap them around whenever you feel like a refresh.

I'm nervous about being in front of the camera. Is that a problem?

Absolutely not. Almost everybody I shoot has never done a photoshoot before, and that's what's so fun. I get to take them from not being able to take a great photo all the way through to getting absolute bangers. We hang out and chat a little bit before any camera comes out, then practise the facial coaching in front of the mirror together. Really, it's just us pulling faces. Then we start somewhere chill while you settle in, and we just have fun until we break the ice. After that we move on to the other shots and have a martini. It's genuinely fun, and nobody believes me until we start doing it. You'll see. I have a real method to this madness.

What should I wear?

Your cutest stuff, honestly. I find a date night look, something casual, something for out and about in the sun and your favorite going-out outfit works really well. You can bring up to seven, plus one extra, like a collared shirt or something smart, for your updated LinkedIn portrait. Hang them in the car so they don't get creased, and we'll go through it all together on the call, so it's nice and simple on the day.

Do I need my hair and makeup done?

Honestly, this is totally up to you. I'd just do it like you're getting ready for a good night out. You want it to match what you look like, your style, your vibe and what you're trying to put out there. Here's a good example of how wardrobe changes work: say we're at a coffee shop and you've got a cute dress on, and next we're changing into your athleisure outfit for a hike. People will generally grab that outfit out of the car, change in the bathroom, and sometimes change their hair for the next shot. It's not usually a complete makeup change, but you're welcome to do that in between shots, for sure.

Can I bring a friend along?

Yeah, you totally can. I've had a lot of people do this in the past. What I recommend, though, is that we talk about it on the phone and work it out logistically. It can genuinely be pretty difficult to line up the timing, especially if we only need them for a couple of shots, but sometimes it works really well depending on the context. Let's just talk it through and work out how it fits with the shot list. Honestly, the more the merrier!

Do I need a full-body photo?

Yes, absolutely. I actually call this the fashion full body shot. I know it's a stupid name, but it says what it is on the tin, so it's very simple to understand lol. I kind of call it the vibe shot too, like you're going out on the town with your friends and someone captured it. A lot of the time I do it when the sun goes down, sometimes under flash. I shoot a lot of fashion photography as well, so I'm quite good at this one. To me it's your fun vibes shot.

I'm in my 40s. Is this for me?

Absolutely. A great photo is a great photo at any age. Good light, a real laugh and a bit of coaching look amazing on everybody, and that's exactly what we'll do. You'll walk away with photos that look like you on your best day.

How much is it, and is it worth it?

It's $799 for the full session: three to four hours, up to seven outfits, a few different locations, a LinkedIn portrait thrown in, and your gallery in three to five days. I genuinely think it's the best thing you can do for your profile. You'll use these pics on every app for ages, and it takes your profile from good to fire.

Do you come to San Antonio?

Yep, I drive down from Austin most weeks. It's $799 plus a flat $150 travel fee. More on the San Antonio page.
