Is online dating photography actually a thing in Austin?
It is, and Austin's about as good a city for it as you'll find. Loads of people here are new to the city and meeting people entirely through an app. This is a session built for one purpose, and that's photographs for your dating profile. Not headshots, not portraits. Most people are running a profile made of photos taken for a completely different reason, which is why so many of them feel slightly off.
I'm new to Austin and have zero photos of myself here. Is that a problem?
Nope, that's half my clients lol. New job, new city, and every photo on your phone is of your old life. We'll shoot you around Austin like you've lived here for years: a coffee shop, a patio, a street with some character. Your profile ends up looking like someone who's already settled in.
Do I get a professional headshot too?
Yep, it's included. We knock out a proper headshot for LinkedIn in one of the outfit changes, so you walk away with your dating app photos and your work photo from the same shoot. No extra cost.
How does an Austin session work, start to finish?
We have a genuinely good time and I'm taking photos throughout. Here's the shape of it. Phone call first, where we talk about what you actually like doing, and afterwards I'll text you the shortlist whether you end up booking or not. Once you book, the facial coaching video comes through so you can watch it beforehand. On the day I turn up and we hang out and talk before any camera comes out, then we get in front of a mirror and practise the coaching together so it's not brand new. We start indoors while you're settling in, then head outside and go do your stuff. Three to four hours, up to seven outfits. Three to five days later you get two folders: Selects, around eight images numbered one to eight in the order I'd use them, and All Images with everything.
Where in Austin do we shoot?
Wherever fits the shortlist we build on the call. Austin genuinely delivers here: East Austin food halls and coffee shops, parks and green space, city streets, neighbourhoods with actual character. I pick locations around what you're into rather than working off a fixed list, and I always find things on the day. Into a sport? We'll go find a court. Got a coffee shop you're in three times a week? We'll shoot there. Some of the best photos sit where something you actually enjoy meets a good candid image. I come down to San Antonio too, just a flat $150 travel fee.
Could I just get a friend with a good camera to do it?
Look, your mate's great, but the difference is direction. Your mate takes a photo of you. My job is getting you to look like yourself on a good day, which is a completely different task and much harder than it sounds. Most people tense up in front of a camera and it shows around the eyes and the jaw. The other difference is range. You leave with a lead photo, close-ups, full body and lifestyle shots that work as a set. Not six versions of the same pose in the same shirt.
Do you shoot women as well as men?
Yeah, and the approach doesn't change: plan it properly on the call, coach the whole way through, and build a set with real range rather than one good photo and five bits of filler.
How recent do my dating photos need to be?
Let's all say it together: no catfishing! Your photos need to be current and they need to represent who you actually are. That's exactly why I don't retouch. I'll colour and process the images so they look distinctive, but I'm not changing your face, and I wouldn't go near an AI generator for this. Had a haircut or got into shape? Brilliant reason to go and get excellent photos. Plus these sessions are genuinely fun, which nobody believes until they turn up.
