I don't have any photos of myself. Is that weird?
Mate, it's the most common thing I hear. You're always the one behind the camera, or every good photo has your ex in it. We start from zero and walk away with a full set, so you're not cropping yourself out of a wedding photo from 2019. I shoot in Austin and come down to San Antonio too.
I've got nobody to take my pics. Can I just use a tripod?
You can, and it beats another car selfie. But the shot where you're properly laughing? Pretty hard to pull off when you're laughing at a phone on a timer lol. That's the bit I'm there for.
Wait, people actually hire a photographer for dating app photos?
Yeah, and way more than you'd think. This is a session built only for your dating profile. It's not a stiff studio headshot session, though you do get an updated LinkedIn portrait out of it (more on dating headshots and portraits). Most people are using photos taken for some other reason entirely, a wedding, a work headshot, a group shot they cropped themselves out of badly. None of those were ever meant to make you look like good company to a stranger holding a phone. That's the whole job here.
OK, so how does it actually work?
We start with a call about which apps you're on and what you genuinely like doing, and we build the shot list and the outfit plan together so nothing's getting decided in a panic on the day. Then we go and shoot it. Three to four hours around Austin, up to seven outfits, moving between places you'd actually go. I'm coaching your expression and posing the whole way through, so you're never left standing there wondering what to do with your hands. Gallery a few days later. I come down to San Antonio too, just a flat $150 travel fee.
How fast can we actually get this done?
Pretty quick, mate. Most people shoot within a week or two of our call, and your gallery lands three to five days after that. So if you've just reactivated your apps, you're not sitting there for a month with the same old car selfie doing the heavy lifting. One of my San Antonio clients got it booked and shot inside a week, it's right there in the reviews lol.
How many dating profile photos do I actually need?
Most apps give you six or more slots and you should fill them. Two photos reads as low effort. Six near-identical photos reads exactly the same way, which nobody expects. What matters is that each one's adding something: what you look like, what your build is, what you actually do, and what you're like around other people. You'll leave with enough to fill every slot and rotate new ones in later.
Which photo should go first?
You get two folders. Selects has around eight images numbered one to eight in the order I'd use them, and All Images has everything from the day. My usual order goes like this. The first is the clearest, best representation of you, just you looking like you on a good day. The second's got something interesting going on, a dog, or you playing pickleball, something with a bit of context. The third is your style and your aesthetic, your coolest outfit. You don't have to follow it, but it's a solid starting point.
Do my photos need to be recent?
Yeah, unless you enjoy that moment where someone realises you look nothing like your profile. That's the fastest way to lose a good date before the drinks arrive and it's completely avoidable. If your best photo is two years and one haircut ago, that's not a reason to keep recycling it. Hair, beards, glasses and general life all move quicker than you think. A current set means they recognise you walking in, and you spend the first five minutes actually talking instead of quietly recalibrating.
